Businesses engage on county’s economic development efforts
In September, the Hamilton County Development Authority (HCDA) held a business roundtable to engage local leaders in the county’s economic development efforts. The discussion follows the completion of the HCDA’s first ever economic development strategic overview and marketing plan developed by VisionFirst Advisors. Led by executive director, Susan Ramsey, the group of more than 45 business leaders and stakeholders discussed the county’s assets and barriers as well as possible industry recruitment targets. Guests included local officials, representatives from the Florida Department of Transportation, the North Florida Economic Development Partnership, Duke Energy’s Economic Development team, Hamilton County Chamber of Commerce board members and a host of other stakeholders.
“To be truly successful in our economic development efforts, we need our business and community leaders to be engaged and providing us with feedback on the best strategies to create new jobs and capital investment for our residents,” said Susan Ramsey, Executive Director of HCDA. “Hosting the roundtable allows our leaders to discuss new ideas and learn more about where we can all work together to achieve success.”
Building off the recommendations in the strategic overview and marketing plan, the HCDA used the roundtable to announce a new business brand for Hamilton County – Florida’s Front Porch. The brand highlights the county’s location as one of Florida’s primary entryways and crossroads while painting a picture of the county’s rural fabric and small-town charm that invites and welcomes both businesses and visitors; a community that celebrates its heritage and natural beauty while welcoming those who want to grow along with it.
The marketing plan and brand are now currently being developed into a new website for the HCDA to promote economic development in the county. To build on the momentum of the discussions and energy from the event, the HCDA will be hosting another roundtable in early November.
